Halloween Hauntings

Protect Yourself from Halloween Hauntings

by Sarah Bellum

The stores are full of spooky costumes and scary decorations. Candy for the trick-or-treaters fills the aisles, and there’s a quiet buzz that autumn has really arrived. It’s time for bonfires and jack-o-lanterns; the first festivity of the end of year holidays. What if you’re one of the few people who doesn’t like Halloween though? What if the stores and the overall atmosphere where monsters are celebrated fills you with dread, as if something heinous is about to happen? Are ghostly spirits and Halloween hauntings going to bother you?

Most of the time the answer to this question is going to be no, but the thing with other-worldly beings is that we don’t really understand them enough to know whether they’re viable, or something that our mind creates. Because the mind has such an amazing capacity to mold the world in which we live sometimes it is hard to know the difference! However, these simple steps can help to protect you from ghosties and ghoulies and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night1.

Crystals in a Dish

Crystals

Crystals have long been carried as amulets of protection against evil spirits. Because everything in creation vibrates on a particular wavelength (we know this, because those frequencies help to determine an item’s color), it is believed that some crystals will help to ward off bad vibrations. Choose from the following:

  • agate (try to avoid green agate, though, and if you can obtain a natural rather than a dyed stone, so much the better)
  • Black onyx or black tourmaline
  • Bloodstone
  • Emerald
  • Labradorite

Carry this stone in your pocket, place one in your purse, or wear it as a piece of jewelry. Because of the grounding powers of black tourmaline, it may be the strongest protection, but any of them will work.

Woman Outside Deep Breath

Don’t Forget to Breathe

This may sound silly, but when you feel tense, it’s easy to forget to breathe deeply. Deep calming breaths not only calm you, but they strengthen your energy field, and thus, strengthen your psychic protection. Breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth; inhale the positive energy and exhale any negativity. It’s simple, but effective–and you cannot forget to take your breath with you, can you?!

Woman Hands Holding Glitter

Glitter for Your Home

You’ve probably seen people use salt as a protective circle in movies and television shows. There’s a reason for this. Salt is a natural preservative, and it conducts energy very well. However, it may not be the best protectant you can use around the house. Rather than using salt, I would recommend you to use… glitter! Nasty entities usually hate happy and shiny objects. Sprinkle glitter around your house, and if you really want to pump up the protection, add some white sugar to it. Place some old nails (point facing outwards) at your doors and windows. All of this will help to deter anything unwelcome from entering into the sanctuary of your home.

Remember, you’re usually not in a lot of danger from the other-worldly spirits. Fears of psychic attack don’t need to throw cold water on your Halloween fun. If you are concerned about Halloween hauntings, though, don’t forget that a positive mindset and a cheerful countenance are your best weapons against any negativity. Let go of your dread, and enjoy yourself!

1The traditional Scottish prayer was, “From ghosties and ghoulies and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night, good Lord deliver us!”
